About us

  • The work is initiated by EFFEKT, CEBRA, and Artelia, and includes the frameworks of the Reduction Roadmap 1.0, the Reduction Roadmap 2.0, and the report Beyond the Roadmap. They include research-based targets for CO₂ reduction and the planetary bounderies.

The roadmap concepts identify where we are today, where we need to go, and the speed at which we must reduce our environmental impact to get within Earth’s safe operating space. The result is science-based transformation tools and a call-to-action for the Danish building industry and political actors, working to align all stakeholders with a commitment to the physical limits of the Paris Agreement, the Montreal Agreement, and Earth’s safe operating space to respect the Planetary Boundaries.

The roadmap concepts are developed in a cross-sectoral partnership with advisors, research institutes, architects, and NGOs within the building industry and are based on the latest scientific knowledge of human impact on the planet. The Reduction Roadmap concepts, frameworks, and methodologies are purposefully developed to be adaptable on an international scale.

2024

2024

  • Main conclusion: Industry actors must reduce the average climate impact from over 90% of all new construction to 0.3 kg CO₂/m²/year by 2030 to have a 50% likelihood of building within the limits of the Paris Agreement and Earth’s safe operating space.

Based on the updated version, our political information campaign to align the emission requirement in the Danish building code with climate science was backed by 630+ firms, municipalities, and organizations.

2023

2022

  • Main conclusion: Industry actors must reduce the average climate impact from new housing construction to 0.4 kg CO₂/m²/year by 2036 to have a 50% likelihood of building within the limits of the Paris Agreement and Earth’s safe operating space.
