Reduction Roadmap 3.0
-
Version 3.0 is based on the latest scientific estimates of the remaining global CO₂ budget. According to Reduction Roadmap 3.0, the average threshold value for the climate impact of new buildings must be maximum 4.6 kg CO₂eq/m²/year in 2027 if the Danish construction industry is to contribute to meeting the targets of the Paris Agreement and limiting global warming to 1.5°C with a 50% likelihood.
In the first phase of Reduction Roadmap 3.0, the calculations focus on new buildings in Denmark and are based on an updated climate science data foundation. The analysis shows that the average emissions from new buildings must be reduced from 7.1 kg CO₂eq/m²/year to net zero by 2029 at the latest, if the construction industry is to stay within the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C target.
In the second phase of the project, to be published in autumn 2026, the perspective will be expanded to cover the entire Danish building stock – both existing buildings and new buildings. This broader perspective aims to strengthen the understanding of the sector’s overall contribution to global warming and examine potential significant emissions reductions.
The Reduction Roadmap concept, framework, and methodology are purposefully developed to be adaptable on an international scale.
